Toyota is taking major steps to become a more responsive, safety-focused organization - listening more closely to our customers, responding more quickly to concerns and taking concrete actions to ensure that we are among the industry's leaders in safety.

For example, Toyota built a NASA-style driving simulator to test driving behaviors.

The dome houses an actual vehicle on a platform that slides in all four direction to mimic the sensation of accelerating, braking and turning.  A giant 360-degree video screen projects the road ahead.  Sound effects provide another realistic note.

The simulator enables vehicles researchers and developers to conduct driver test that would be too dangerous to perform in the real world.  After analyzing driving on electronic highways, engineers can design technology to help reduce accidents on authentic highways.
